Batik Resists on Asian & Watercolour Papers

Course Code: ARTS1147

This course is welcome to all levels. Anyone can take these courses if interested. Beginner-level instruction will be provided for basic skills while more advanced users can work on more complex projects with instructor assistance.
Apply golden hot beeswax to beautiful Asian and watercolour papers using cord-covered wooden block stamps, a variety of brushes - from wide to skinny, traditional Indonesian hot wax drawing tools, and Indonesian wooden carved patterned stamps. Paint and layer colours on the paper, using acrylic paint washes and transparent watercolours, while the wax resists your washes. The wax will then be ironed between newsprint layers and lifted out. Remarkable designs and unexpected results will remain and can be cut, torn or left as is to create abstract landscape collages, book covers, paper quilts, and other creative explorations. Learn about design, composition, colour mixing, and a host of collage techniques. Experiment, work from intuition, and delight in the beauty of risk-taking as you explore your personal style and achieve surprising effects. Instruction is suitable for beginners and experienced artists in this supportive opportunity for exploration of a variety of materials.
