Fleming College is committed to being a welcoming place for all, where the needs of our diverse populations are met, and varying perspectives enrich our communities. It is our shared responsibility to understand the experiences of our employees and students in culturally safe and inclusive ways. Together, guided by our Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Council, Fleming will continue to follow our strategic direction and meet our commitment to eliminate barriers and build an inclusive sense of belonging.
Maureen Adamson, President
The Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Council aims to create a welcoming culture within the Fleming College community. This includes opportunities to candidly discuss and lead initiatives for equity, inclusion, and anti-oppression work.
The Council will focus on addressing systemic oppression, such as anti-Black racism, anti-Indigenous racism, racism against people of colour, Islamophobia, ableism, sexism, homophobia, and transphobia. It will also guide the College on how it can better serve members of our community who self-identify as belonging to historically disadvantaged communities.
The EDI Council is Chaired by Lori Blundon, Dean of the School of Health and Community Services, and has representation from across the College community – including our student associations, unions, and employees.
On March 22, 2021, the EDI Council launched a voluntary, anonymous and fully confidential survey for current students and employees. Over 1,000 respondents shared their experiences and insights into the current state of equity, diversity & inclusion at Fleming College.
A full report on the findings will be presented in the Fall, but the anonymous results have been aggregated and you can now view the highlights in a brief summary report.
