6 Steps to guide you through your journey to Fleming College

Step 1: Choose a program

Review the programs that we have available.

Be sure to check the following:

• Program start date (the tab at the side of each program page indicates start dates).
• Do I meet the minimum admissions requirements?
• Does the length of program meet my visa requirements (is it at least 2 semesters in length)?

Step 2: Gather Documents

Your application will require the following documents:

• Diploma Programs
  Scanned original, certified/notarized, secondary school graduation transcripts (please include scratch card information if submitting from WAEC region).
• Post Graduate Programs
  Scanned original, certified/notarized university and/or college transcripts.
• All documents must be translated into English (where applicable) by an official notary or approved educational resource.
• Check the English Language Testing requirements.

Step 3: When to apply

To find details about your intended intake, please check the information available at https://www.ontariocolleges.ca/en/colleges/fleming.

Offers:

We process applications as quickly as we can, with a goal of providing offers within 10 business days of receiving an application. Application processing times can vary, due to the volume of applicants. Check your OCAS IAS profile often to see any updates (or check with your agent if applicable).

If you have not received a status update within 30 days of submitting your application, please contact International Admissions directly at admissions@flemingcollege.ca.

• Apply as early as possible in order to allow enough time to obtain temporary resident visas (if necessary) and study permits, both of which can take several months.
• It is the student's responsibility to ensure they have enough time to apply for their Study Permit and Visa or eTA, as applicable.

Step 4: How to apply

Please note: If programs show as unavailable/closed in the International OCAS portal, they are currently full or we have a large number of applications that have not been processed. You are advised to check the application portal weekly to see if new spaces have opened.

Direct applicant (without an agent)	Please submit through Ontariocolleges.ca International Application.
Agent (Fleming College approved)	Please click here to apply on behalf of an applicant.
* New applicants will be required to pay a $100 CAD fee when submitting an application.
Current Fleming Students (no fee required)	Please submit through Ontariocolleges.ca International Application. Choose "Fleming College - Returning Students" as your Agency. If you receive a "duplicate application notice", please email admissions@flemingcollege.ca, include your student ID.

How to Finalize Applications Online:

Upon payment of your application fee, at the end of the application, it is important you return back to your application to select "Submit". If your credit card requires processing time (can be 1 to 3 days) OR you choose to pay via wire, you will receive an update from Ontariocolleges.ca when the payment has been accepted. It is very important you log back into your application and submit - failure to do so results in Fleming not receiving your application.

You (or your agent) will be advised via email notification if additional supporting documents are required. Processing of applications can only occur once all information has been received, and the application fee is paid.

How does the online application work?

Within the Fleming College Ontariocolleges.ca International Applicant Portal (IAS Portal) you (or your agent, if applicable) will be able to:

1. Create an international application to Fleming College
2. Pay the application fee (payments made via Flywire)
3. Submit an application for review (following payment of application fee)
4. Upload supporting documentation (i.e., transcripts, study permits etc.)
5. View the status of your application(s)
6. Print Letters of Acceptance
7. Confirm acceptance of an offer, prior to Confirmation Deposit Payment
8. Update your personal information

Upon accepting your offer, all other Fleming offers will be revoked.

Please ensure you are using the International OCAS site (link can be found in Step 4). Applications sent through the Domestic OCAS site will not be assessed.

Step 5: When you have an offer

If you are accepted, you will be notified via email.

• Access your offer through the International Application Portal (IAS Portal) (or from your Agent), and ensure "accept offer" is chosen in your application.
• Pay the total amount of your first-semester fees as required in the offer letter (payment options are included in the offer package). Full first-semester fees must be received in our office by the deadline. Your seat will be revoked due to late or incomplete payment.
• Your fee receipts will be loaded into your OCAS IAS Portal account approximately 7-10 business days after you make your payment. Please be sure to add your student number on all wire and bank transfer payments.
• If approved for a Provincial Attestation Letter, you will receive communication from the college and will be able to download your Provincial Attestation Letter from OCAS IAS portal.
• Begin process of applying for Study Permit and Temporary Resident Visa or eTA, as applicable (https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/study-canada.html).

Step 6: Plan your Trip

Approximately 7 weeks before your term begins, you will receive an email from International Student Services that will begin a series of important information updates to help you get organized.

Applicant Processing Information

Missing or incomplete documents will negatively impact the outcome of your application and the speed you receive an offer. Please ensure all required documents are submitted.

Due to Canadian Immigration processing times for student visa applications, we will not process any applications received after the dates below from the corresponding country.

Students who already possess a valid study permit for Canada can disregard the chart below, and are welcome to apply while programs are open.

For countries that qualify under the Direct Stream (SDS) program, the dates listed are applicable to applicants obtaining a study permit using the SDS program.

International applicants must meet Fleming College's English language proficiency requirements in order to gain admission to a study program. See the Language requirements page for more information.

Coop Requirements

Some programs require include work experience as part of the curriculum. You may need a Co-op Work Permit. Check your offer letter for more information.

How do I apply as an International Student?

Applications are done online at Ontariocolleges.ca International Application (IAS). Further information is available on the How to Apply page for International students page.

Am I eligible for admission? What are the admission requirements?

There are two main categories for admission requirements: Academic and Language requirements. In addition, some programs have non-academic requirements (NARs) upon admission to the program. Academic requirements and NARs can be found on the program's specific web page.

Do I need to provide an IELTS score/proof of English proficiency?

Yes. For more information, please review our language requirements.

When can I apply? When is the deadline to apply?

When to Apply provides information on when we are accepting applications for a particular term, and the Application Processing Information outlines estimated deadlines for admission consideration for applicants from different countries. The Ontariocolleges.ca International Application (IAS)portal includes the status of each program: open, waitlisted, or closed.

My online application did not ask for any documents, what do I do next?

International applications submitted correctly through Ontariocolleges.ca International Application (IAS) would have provided the option to upload relevant academic and personal documents.

If this was not the case, the application has likely been submitted to the Domestic Ontario Colleges application portal. The applicant will need to re-submit their application by following the instructions available. Applicants can request for a refund of domestic application fee at international@ocas.ca. (OCAS will not provide refunds if applicants have applied to more than one college using the incorrect portal).

How will I receive any updates on my application status?

Updates can be found on the Ontario Colleges International application portal. Applicants working with an agent can seek this information from their agent. If no update is received within 30 days of submitting an application, the applicant or their agent should contact International Admissions directly at admissions@flemingcollege.ca.

How much are tuition fees?

Aside from an offer letter, tuition fee information can be found at the top on the specific program web page. If it cannot be found, please directly contact International Admissions.

Some ancillary fees are charged upfront. For instance, students studying at the Sutherland Campus and starting in September will have the fee "Integrated Transportation Fee" (Bus Pass), and "International Health Plan" (International Health Insurance coverage). These fees are charged once (1x) per year in September OR at a prorated (reduced) amount based on the term they enter.

When using the tuition details charts on each program page to calculate the cost of upper semesters of a program, be sure to subtract the Transportation and Health Plan charges based on the intake you entered.

Does Fleming College offer any scholarships/bursaries?

New merit-based scholarships are available to international students with excellent academic achievements at Fleming College. For more information, please review page 31 of our International Viewbook.

During the first 3 weeks of the term, students with an active timetable can apply for financial assistance through Fleming's bursary program found on the Financial Aid web page.

There are currently no entrance scholarship opportunities for International Students.

I have been approved to study in Canada and received my visa/eTA, what should I do next?

Congratulations! We will see you at Fleming College soon. Students or their agent should upload the issued study permit & visa to their respective Ontario Colleges application to complete the online admissions process.

Please review your offer letter, as well as the services available through the International Student Services department (pre-arrival checklist, arrival services and temporary accommodation).

Exact dates and information will be communicated by email within 1 - 2 months before the start of the semester.

My study permit application is still being processed or has been denied, what should I do?

Students unable to arrive for the beginning of their program should consider the possibility of deferring your admission to the next available intake, or withdrawing from your program - please refer to question “How do I request a deferral” and “How do I request a withdrawal/refund” below. If you are unable to arrive by day 5 of the term (the offer expiry date listed on your offer letter), contact International Admissions ahead of time to plan for the best course of action.

How do I request a deferral?

Students who have accepted an offer and paid fees can request a deferral by logging into their International Ontario Colleges application portal. Then, choose "Withdraw Acceptance", provide a reason for withdrawal, choose "Yes" for request a deferral, and follow the instructions provided.

Students working with an agent should follow their agency guidelines for deferring to different term.

A deferral can only be made for the same program within the same academic year (example: deferral can be made from September to January or May, not September to the following September).

Applicants that have not paid fees but would like to be considered for a different term, simply need to reapply to the new term through OCAS (on their own, or through an agent). These students do not need to make a deferral request.

How do I request a withdrawal/refund?

First, carefully review our refund policy.A withdrawal/refund can then be requested through the Ontario Colleges International Application Portal or directly through an agent.

In the application, choose "Withdraw Acceptance" provide a reason for withdrawal, choose "No" for request a Refund, and follow the instructions provided. You must include the International Student Wire Refund Request Form in your request.

Once a complete withdrawal is submitted, it can take up to 6 - 8 weeks to complete refund processing. Please refrain from contacting Admission and Cashier's about refund status for at least 6 weeks after a completed request has been submitted. At present, students will not receive any notifications of funds transfer, so it is advised that their account be regularly checked.

My offer letter says I need a Co-op Work Permit, what should I do?

Certain programs have a field placement/co-op work component where students have the opportunity to work outside the classroom in their field of study, as a part of their program workload.

To perform work as a part of your study in Canada (both paid and unpaid, on or off campus), students are required to apply for a Co-op Work Permit.

On your offer letter, the CO-OP WORK PERMIT INFORMATION page is a letter of support to your application for a Co-op Work Permit. You must indicate in your initial Study Permit application that you will require a Co-op Work Permit and attach this page to your application.

At the Port of Entry upon your arrival to Canada, a Canada Border Services officer will issue you a Co-op Work Permit along with your Study Permit. Alternatively, students can apply for a Co-op Work Permit during their stay in Canada using the same letter. Waiting to apply for this permit in Canada will result in added delays, and may impact your ability to meet program requirements.

Where can I find more information on housing?

Information and tips on searching for housing can be found on the on-campus and off-campus housing websites. During International Orientation, which typically takes place the week prior to beginning of classes, students are briefed on their rights as tenants in Canada. Any questions that may arise after reviewing these materials can be emailed to och@flemingcollege.ca.

When can I view my timetable?

Students will receive a timetable through My Student Centre within 24-48 hours after checking-in in person at one of Fleming College's campuses. Prior to this, it is not possible to determine what a schedule might look like, however the number of class hours each week can be estimated by reviewing the program's curriculum on its specific program page.

For each class, the Unit/Hours can typically be divided by 15 (weeks) to find out the number of class hours each week. If you have further questions as to the delivery of the class, you should contact the program coordinator, listed on the right side of each program page.

What can a friend or relative do on my behalf?

In accordance with provincial law, personal student information can only be shared with the student directly, or to an authorized third party (example: an agent supporting you). A friend or relative can make payments on the student/applicant's behalf, or let the College know of the questions from student/applicant so that they can be contacted by the College with the answer. Friends and relatives would not be able to retrieve/access any information on the student/applicant's admission or student account.

IRCC Announcement

I am a current international student and have a valid study permit. How will the IRCC announcement affect me?

The only change in PGWP requirements for current students with valid study permits is that they will need to prove language proficiency.

I am a current student, and my study permit will expire before I complete my current program. What should I do?

If possible, we recommend you apply for your Study Permit extension before November 1, 2024. For more information about how to apply for a Study Permit extension, including how to request a support letter for your application, please review the International Student Services website. Please contact international@flemingcollege.ca with any questions about your application.

I am planning to begin my studies at Fleming College in January or May 2025, but I have not applied for a Study Permit. What should I do?

If possible, we recommend you apply for your Study Permit before November 1, 2024. If you apply before November 1, you will be eligible for PGWP provided you meet the language requirements for college graduates.

If you apply after November 1, 2024, your PGWP eligibility will depend on your program of study as well as meeting the language requirements. Fleming College will share more information about the PGWP eligible programs when it becomes available.

What programs will be affected by the recent IRCC announcement?

Fleming College is working with the provincial and federal governments to determine what programs will be PGWP eligible. More information will be shared as soon as it becomes available. If you are a current student with a valid study permit, the only change to PGWP eligibility is that you must meet the language requirements for college graduates.
