This course has been designated at a beginner/intermediate level. These courses may branch into skill building beyond the beginner level, but the faculty member is also willing to take on students with no previous skills.
Using any digital camera, this course will begin by taking images of an object from every angle. Using this raw material, you will study the emotional and conceptual effects of cropping multiple compositions out of a single source image. This process-based course will emphasize finding the subject lurking between the object and its context. Novices only need a smartphone to participate. Intermediate photographers may want to work with a DSLR camera. Practice time will be based on instruction about visual intentions, and principles of design. Instruction will introduce ideas from the history of art, culture and philosophy to stimulate one's imagination.
