4th annual EcoHealth Conference
Fleming College’s Ecosystem Management Technology Program proudly presents the 4th annual EcoHealth Conference. This year’s theme is “Healthy Food, Healthy People, Healthy Planet.”
Third Year Ecosystem Management Technology students at Fleming College are culminating their semester by hosting an eco-conference at the Frost Campus in Lindsay on Tuesday, Apr. 12.
The aim of this event is to educate the public about how their health is connected to the food they eat and, ultimately, the health of the environment. Using a holistic approach, the students hope to engage the local community in understanding the culture of food, in a health and environmental context.
The Fleming students are committed to making this conference an enlightening and exciting experience for all and are eager to have members of the media participate. As such, they are very pleased to announce that Jon Steinman, host of the popular radio show Deconstructing Dinner will be attending as a keynote speaker.
Deconstructing Dinner is a one-hour weekly radio show which examines the impacts that our food choices have on ourselves, our communities and the earth.
Throughout the day, activities and workshops will be open for guest participation that will cover a range of areas from beekeeping to healthy eating and gardening. Hosted by local experts, these interactive workshops will ensure that participants have techniques and information that they can use once they leave the conference.
Local high school and elementary students will also have the opportunity to participate in the conference Youth Summit, which will explore sustainable agriculture and demonstrate how easy it is to grow healthy food and produce that will contribute to a healthy lifestyle, and a healthier planet.
The Ecosystem Management class is inviting students, Lindsay and surrounding area residents, community groups and local businesses to attend, participate and learn.
