5th annual ‘score ONE for the TEAM’ charity basketball tournament
Police Foundation students from Fleming College are hosting the fifth annual score ONE for the TEAM three-on-three charity basketball tournament for the Huntington’s Society on Saturday, April 6.
The tournament, held at the Peterborough Sport and Wellness Centre, will see 24 teams participating in two divisions – competitive and recreation. Sponsored by Nortrax and ServiceMASTER, the tournament features a barbecue and raffle (prizes include Toronto Maple Leaf and Raptor tickets). Teams are guaranteed five games and one play-off game. There will be a three-point competition and trophies for winning teams.
All proceeds from this tournament are donated to the Huntington’s Society of Canada for research into a cure. Since 2009, this event has raised over $16,000. For more details, and how to register or donate to the Huntington’s Society, please visi www.score-one-for-the-team.com.
Since its inception, the tournament has been organized with the support of Fleming Police Foundation students. These students build on leadership, organizational, and communication skills essential to a career in policing. By volunteering, Police Foundation students also demonstrate a sense of community and willingness to help others.
Constable Jodi Landriault of the Peterborough Lakefield Community Police Service was on the tournament’s organizing committee in 2009 and continues to volunteer. She says the tournament, “is a great way for students to get involved in their community and support an amazing cause. Not only are we raising money, but awareness. ”
