Alumni Appreciation Week wrap-up; students, alumni and employers working in partnership

Published

Fleming College Alumni Appreciation Week wraps up for another year tonight at the annual Fleming Night at the Petes event. Each year more than 600 Fleming students, staff and alumni join the crowd at the game.

Several events have taken place throughout the week in Peterborough and the City of Kawartha Lakes to raise awareness about the amazing work Fleming graduates are doing in our community and the wonderful partnerships between students, alumni and employers.

Approximately 15,000 Fleming College Alumni are living and working in Peterborough and the City of Kawartha Lakes. Many employers consider Fleming College to be their first choice in hiring – employers such as Canterbury Gardens.

“The Gardens of Peterborough are industry leaders in the provision of quality accommodations and lifestyle choices for today’s next generation of retirees. To be successful we rely on the skills and expertise of educated and well prepared graduates and Fleming College is our first choice. Because Fleming College holds their students to the same high standard as ours, we have confidence in their programs and are proud to be an employer of choice of their graduates,” says Executive Director and Fleming Alumna, Kerri Davies.

Over half of Canterbury Gardens’ staff are Fleming College alumni, including Dan Leal. Dan was named the Director of Dining Services in 2007. He graduated from the Chef Apprentice program in 1999. Dan enjoys working with Fleming students and currently has a Culinary Management/Co-op Apprentice program student working with him.

Robynne Hubert moved from Niagara Falls to study in the Culinary Management/Co-op Apprentice program because she felt it was the best choice for her and is enjoying the placement opportunities the program offers.

Kerri is thrilled to have students doing their placements at Canterbury Gardens. As Event Chair for the college’s signature event, Dream: Fleming International Culinary Festival, “I am proud to be able to support the Fleming Culinary Festival and their fine students,” states Kerri.

Dream: Fleming International Culinary Festival takes place Wednesday Feb. 23 at 6 p.m. at the Sutherland Campus of Fleming College. The event is an opportunity for Fleming culinary students to showcase their talents and raise funds for student financial assistance. Tickets are available by calling 705-749-5509.

The Fleming College Alumni Association would like to thank the community for their enthusiasm for Fleming College Alumni Appreciation Week including the many employers who have been a part of this week’s festivities. Also a special thanks to Hicks-Morley, event sponsor for their generous support.
