City of Peterborough proclaims Fleming College Alumni Appreciation Day
February 20, 2009 is first annual Alumni Appreciation Day The City of Peterborough has officially proclaimed February 20 Fleming College Alumni Appreciation Day. City Councillor Eric Martin today read the official written proclamation in front of Fleming College alumni and staff at a special ceremony in the Brian L. Desbiens Galleria at the Sutherland Campus.“How does a college earn its reputation? It starts with great faculty and staff. But ultimately it is also a matter of the skills, talents and contributions that alumni bring to both the workplace and the community,” said Fleming College President Dr. Tony Tilly. “This day is an opportunity for the community to recognize and celebrate the skills and services of Fleming College graduates who work and live within the Greater Peterborough Area. Our Fleming alumni are a valued part of the community.”“As a business owner, I recognize that Peterborough is very fortunate to have a resource like Fleming College in our community. Fleming provides the opportunity to support our local economy through the hiring of skilled and dedicated graduates which significantly contribute to the success of our businesses,” said Dana Merrett, Fleming alumna and general manager of Carlson Wagonlit Travel in Peterborough.“Fleming College graduates make a significant contribution to our local and regional economy. Today we can take the time to recognize and thank our Fleming alumni for the work they do in our community – whether it’s in business, health care, emergency services, community services, the arts or the environment,” said MPP Jeff Leal. Businesses and organizations that employ Fleming graduates also held meetings, coffee breaks and luncheons in honour of Fleming alumni.
