Community Innovation Forum showcases unique opportunities for business owners
Local business owners will learn about attracting investment, hear business success stories and have an opportunity to network at The Second Annual Community Innovation Forum: Knowledge in Action at the Peterborough Golf & Country Club. From 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. on April 5, 2012, the Greater Peterborough Innovation Cluster, The Trent Centre for Community Based Education and Fleming College’s School of Business, Computing and Hospitality will be hosting two panel discussions, a keynote address with networking session and a student-organization partnership project showcase.
The Community Innovation Forum is building off last year’s successful merging of three previous events – the Innovation Cluster’s Innovation Summit, Fleming College’s Showcase of Applied Projects and the Trent Centre for Community-Based Education’s Knowledge in Action Forum – to demonstrate the importance of community collaborations in driving a healthy, prosperous economy and social, cultural and environmental sustainability.
This year, the Community Innovation Forum will be presenting a networking reception and keynote presentation provided by Kevin Stolarick, Research Director at the Martin Prosperity Institute, in conjunction with the Trent University and Fleming College Student Showcase, at which student-employer applied projects will be showcased to the public. Judging of the applied projects will also take place, followed by an awards ceremony during the reception.
The two panel discussions, Winning Stories and Attracting Investment, will be taking place– the content of which is aimed towards the benefit of the local business sector. The Community Innovation Forum is an excellent opportunity for students to explain to community members the benefits of student partnerships for both the host organization and the student.
The Community Innovation Forum also aims to engage local high school students by showcasing the applied and experiential work which post-secondary school students are exposed to. The Community Innovation Forum seeks to encourage secondary school students to pursue higher education at the university and college level, in addition to engaging the community in the benefits of community-academic and industry-academic collaboration.
