Digital Image Design: New program at Haliburton Campus:

Published

A new program at the Haliburton Campus intersects fine art, digital photography and design.

The Digital Image Design certificate program starts in January at the Haliburton School of The Arts. Its unique, one-semester format is equivalent to two semesters of full-time studies.

Small classes taught by industry professionals ensure students have ample opportunity to build their portfolio onto graphic design, fine art or animation.

Students will be introduced to a broad range of tools and techniques for the generation of digital images and for output to both screen and print media. Integrating digital photography, creative software programs, and traditional artist’s media, students will explore a variety of subjects – using both classical design processes and contemporary approaches.

“The rich history of visual arts programming that is offered at the Haliburton campus makes it the perfect setting for this new program at Fleming College,” says Sandra Dupret, Principal of the Haliburton Campus. “We had many students at our campus who wanted to explore technology and software in their artwork without sacrificing their individuality as an artist – creating work for themselves, versus for a client. Digital Image Design will allow them to do just that. They can then take what they learn in this program and add it to their artmaking toolbox or continue on in their studies to a more design-orientated program, such as Graphic Design, which we are planning to launch in 2012.

“This program is the beginning of the next generation of programming at the Haliburton School of The Arts,” she added.

Graduates of Digital Image Design can choose from a number of dynamic careers: film-compositing, storyboard artist, computer and traditional animation, video game design, web design, fine art, graphic design, digital photography, and advertising.
