Fellowship in Applied Education Award Winner
Fleming College will honour Peterborough resident John Martyn with the Fellowship in Applied Education award for his work in the Peterborough community. Martyn, a retired teacher from St. Peter’s Secondary School, has been involved in various organizations and committees over the last 25 years to increase the availability of affordable housing for Peterborough residents. He has lent his services to groups such as Homegrown Homes, Committee of the Peterborough Poverty Reduction Network, Affordable Housing Action Committee, Kairos Non-Profit Housing, and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Community Foundation of Greater Peterborough. John Martyn, will receive the Sutherland/Cobourg Fellowship in Applied Education Award on Tuesday, June 8 at 10 a.m. during the School of Law, Justice and Community Services Convocation at the Peterborough Sport and Wellness Centre. This honorary fellowship was created to recognize citizens who have demonstrated outstanding commitment to, and concern for, their community and the world beyond. Within their career, or through volunteer work, the Fellowship award winners have put their ideas and skills to practical use for the benefit of other individuals. Located in the heart of Central Ontario, Fleming College has campuses in Peterborough, Lindsay, Cobourg and Haliburton. Named for famous Canadian inventor and engineer Sir Sandford Fleming, the college features more than 90 full-time programs in Business and Technology, Continuing Education and Skilled Trades, Environmental and Natural Resource Sciences, Fine Arts, Health and Wellness, and Law, Justice and Community Services. Fleming College has more than 5,700 full-time and 10,000 part-time students and over 50,000 alumni.
