Fleming College

Peterborough ON – A spontaneous celebration broke out today at Fleming College’s Sutherland campus as Fleming College Foundation announced their 2009/2010 Ontario Trust for Student Support fundraising achievement! Staff and students in the foyer of the college were confused and excited as the tune “Old Time Rock ‘n Roll” began blaring from a sound system and a single dancer began a routine in the middle of the room. She was quickly joined by approximately thirty other students, staff and administration who had been secretly rehearsing the “flash mob” all week under the direction of Move ‘N Grooove Dance Studio owner and choreographer, Julie Fallis. After the dance was completed, President Tony Tilly announced that Fleming College has raised $987,000 through the Ontario Government’s Ontario Trust for Student Support (OTSS) program; surpassing their annual ceiling by 33%. This represents approximately an additional $39,500 in annual funding to Fleming College students through new bursaries and increases to existing awards. Since 2005 Fleming College has raised approximately $2,389,500 through the OTSS program. The Fleming College Foundation distributed over $160,000 in student financial assistance during the 2009-2010 academic year to students at the four college campuses. Ontario Trust for Student Support is a matched-gift funding program that was established in 2005 by the provincial government to encourage individuals and organizations to contribute to permanent endowment funds to provide financial assistance for Ontario’s college and university students. The majority of the funds secured are matched 1:1, however this is the 2nd time since the inception of the program that Fleming College has qualified for additional enhanced funding through a 3:1 match on a portion of the donations received during the year.  Definitely something to dance about!- 30 –   For more information, contact:Nicole Grady           Development/Alumni Officer Fleming College FoundationFleming College(705) 749-5520, ext. 1390 To watch the YouTube video visit:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xqY-EssGKco
