Fleming College accepting nominations for the 2011 Premier’s Awards
The Fleming College Alumni Association is accepting nominations for the Ontario Premier’s Awards for Graduates of Ontario Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology until Friday, May 13, 2011 at noon.
The awards honour the important social and economic contribution college graduates make to Ontario and throughout the world. Nominees must demonstrate outstanding career success related to their college experience and have made a significant contribution to their community.
This year’s awards ceremony will take place on Nov. 28, 2011 at the Sheraton Centre in Toronto. The Premier’s Awards acknowledge outstanding graduates from six categories: Creative Arts and Design, Community Services, Business, Health Sciences, Technology and a Recent Graduate.
All provincial nominees will receive a framed certificate signed by the Premier of Ontario and each of the six recipients will receive a bronze medal as well as a $5,000 donation directed to the recipient’s college.
Last year, Fleming College alumna Belinda Junkin, Business Administration – Materials Management and Distribution graduate (1985), won the honour in the Business category for her work with the Canadian Pallet Council. Belinda donated her $5,000 prize towards student financial assistance.
“It was such an honour to be selected for this award. I came to the college as a single mother of two to make a better life for my family. The broad spectrum of the business department at Fleming allowed me to get exposure and experience in all aspects of business as well as my chosen specialty. The faculty were extremely supportive and proven successful in the industries for which they taught, which made all the difference! I was truly humbled to receive this award,” she said.
