Fleming College

Peterborough ON – May 12, 2010 – On May 17thover 50 students will be participating in workshops hosted at two of Fleming’s Campuses for the 49th Canada Wide Science Fair.Peterborough has been selected to host approximately 500 students from across Canada during the annual science fair from May 15th to 23rd. Students will be engaged in activities, workshops as well as competing in the premier science fair in the country.Students visiting the Sutherland-Brealey Campus will work with Shannon Langlois, Biotechnology Technologist – Forensics professor. This group will examine equipment used in the forensics program and engage in a hands-on workshop on how to extract DNA samples.At the Frost Campus in Lindsay students will tour the sustainable aspects of the campus including the living wall, green roof and geothermal heating and cooling system. The students will also investigate the Centre for Alternative Wastewater Treatment and explore both the Muskie and the Atlantic Salmon Hatchery.Students will be at each campus from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on May 17th.During the rest of their time in Peterborough, students from grade seven to 12 will showcase their own projects to the public. Winners will receive close to $1 million in scholarships and grants.Located in the heart of Central Ontario, Fleming College has campuses in Peterborough, Lindsay, Cobourg and Haliburton.
