Fleming College Launches Unique Geothermal Drilling Certificate Program

Published

Fleming College continues to expand its portfolio of environmental and sustainability focused  programs, giving students more career options in emerging environmental industries. Geothermal drillers work in the rapidly expanding area of alternative energy resources, in the field of geothermal energy heating and cooling systems. The Geothermal Drilling program is unique in North America. According to industry representatives, currently there are more jobs than drillers. These are specialized jobs that require this specific type of training, states Catherine Staples, manager of Environmental Training at the School of Continuing Education and Skilled Trades at Fleming College. This hands-on program offers comprehensive training in geothermal drilling, including construction methods, geology and hydrogeology, environmental impacts, customer service, and the safe operation and maintenance of drilling equipment. Students will have both field experience and time in the classroom. The program is balanced with business knowledge and applied science for an understanding of the industry needs and environmental stewardship.Upon graduation students will receive a Fleming College Certificate of Completion. The program runs May 3 to Aug 19, 2010. Individual modules are also open for registration for those already working in the industry who are looking to upgrade their skills.
