Fleming College Staff Deliver Drilling and Blasting Training in Northwest Territories

Peterborough, ON – October 8, 2010 – Four faculty members of Fleming’s Frost Campus in Lindsay will be traveling to the Northwest Territories to deliver practical training in drilling and blasting techniques at the Det’on Cho Training Centre from October 11 to December 22.

Instructors Lorne Bellamy, Steve Pinney, Tim Casey and Gord Bailey will be training 16 students from the local communities in Blasting Fundamentals, Intro to Drilling Fundamentals, Blast Hole Drilling,and Preventative Maintenance.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for Fleming College to share our expertise with communities in need in Canada. There is a real need for this type of training in the Northwest Territories. The students participating will qualify for entry level blasting jobs in surface mining, underground mining, road construction, and quarry operations,” said Linda Skilton, Principal of Fleming College’s Frost Campus.

The Det’on Cho Training Centre serves the training needs of Dene First Nations people in the Yellowknife area.
