Fleming Day of Pink March 12

Published

International Day of Pink is an initiative created by Canadian students that aims to stop bullying. The event has spread to schools across the country, and on Monday, March 12, Fleming College will be holding the Fleming Day of Pink.

On March 12, the Diversity Office encourages all students and staff to wear pink in support of a campus that is free from bullying and harassment.  A limited number of pink T-shirts, pins and buttons will be available at information tables, with proceeds going towards Jer’s Vision foundation/Day of Pink.

Public presentation

Monday, March 12

3 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Sutherland campus, Lecture Hall 374

Peter Williams from Peterborough AIDS Resource Network will speak about building more inclusive campuses for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Two-Spirited and Queer (LGBTTSQ) students. All are welcome. There will be a repeat presentation at the same time and location on March 19.

Fleming College has maintained a long-term commitment to promoting an inclusive learning and working environment for students and staff of all orientations. In 2002, the college collaborated with the Fleming Association of Queer Students (FAQS²) in the establishment of the Positive Space Campaign, which challenges the culture of silence around homophobia and offers students safe spaces to find support. To celebrate the 10th anniversary, Fleming is developing a Positive Space training program. Contact the Diversity Office for more information.
