Fleming Safe Plan – Residence & Housing in the Fall 2020 semester
Peterborough ON – (June 24, 2020) –At Fleming, we are committed to ensuring that safe housing is available to our students. The College has been listening to ensure compliance with the provincial guidelines and public health recommendations related to re-opening with health and safety remaining the top priority of the Fleming community.
As per the Minister’s announcement, Ontario’s colleges and universities can begin to re-open campuses for a small number of in-person programs that could not be completed due to COVID-19 this past winter and spring. Selected programs are specifically for students who were “stranded” in their final semester and unable to complete the practical requirements to graduate and join the work force. To support out-of-town students, our residences will be open to offer short-term, weekly stays for these students. Availability will be limited, as we are operating at a reduced capacity to ensure physical distancing measures are in place. These short-term stays will begin in July and carry through October.
As part of the Fleming Safe plan, the fall semester will begin online, ensuring that students can continue their programs of study while maintaining the highest possible safety standards in compliance with government and public health directives. To align with the Fleming Safe plan and in anticipation of a potential return to campus, residences will be available for students for the second half of the semester, beginning October 22. The residences will continue to operate at a reduced capacity and spaces will be reserved for those students in essential worker programs and those living the farthest distance from campus. Physical distancing measures and cleaning enhancements will be in-place to welcome students to a safe campus. Additional community housing information has also been developed to assist students and landlords in our campus communities to secure safe housing during COVID-19.

Students that had applied to live in residence are encouraged to check their email and tune in to the Student Experience town hall today, Wednesday, June 24 from 1:30 – 3 p.m. to hear about the services and programs that will be in-place to support their success.
