Health and Wellness graduates score high marks
Alumni continue to excel on provincial and national certification examsGraduates of Fleming College’s School of Health and Wellness are excelling on their certification exams, achieving test scores above national and provincial averages. Within the health care field in Canada, to certify individuals to practice, most professions require written and/or practical exams in addition to diplomas and degrees. These exams are highly regulated on a provincial or national level.Fleming graduates’ performance on these certification exams further illustrates and reinforces the excellent reputation of the college’s programs within the School of Health and Wellness:• Within Fleming’s Massage Therapy program, 94 per cent of graduates passed the practical component of the certification exam in 2007 (2008 results not available yet) compared to a provincial pass rate of 84 per cent. • Graduates of the Health Information Management program must write a national exam administered by the Canadian College of Health Information Management to become certified. Fleming graduates had an 81 per cent pass rate in 2008 compared to a national average of 76 per cent. • Graduates of Fleming’s Practical Nursing diploma program also write a national exam that allows them to become registered as well as work in Ontario. Ninety-eight per cent of Fleming’s PN graduates in 2008 were successful in passing the exam.“All of our programs within the School of Health and Wellness prepare individuals to succeed in their chosen careers. In addition to meeting the standards set by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities, graduates of these programs must also meet challenging external standards set by their respective professional organizations,” says Carol Kelsey, Dean of the School of Health and Wellness. “The graduates’ performance is a testament to their skills and knowledge, Fleming’s dedicated faculty and staff, and the program curricula, which are designed to equip students for a successful career in the health care field.” – 30 -For more information: Laura Copeland, Communications Officer, 705-749-5530 x 1370 or copeland@flemingc.on.ca
