Fleming College

A new environmental protection technology, officially launched today, was tested extensively by the Centre for Alternative Wastewater Treatment (CAWT) to ensure its efficacy.

At a special product launch held at Fleming College’s Frost Campus, Murrenhil Corporation demonstrated the abilities of the ROC Oil Cling Pad™, which can effectively clean up small-scale oil or fuel spills.

The ROC (Rapid Oil Containment) Cling Pad™ is 100 per cent recyclable and ideal for recreational and small scale commercial usage due to its light weight, compact size, and oil-adsorbing properties. It is small enough to take aboard all-sized watercrafts and vehicles and can be used for spilled fuels/hydrocarbons during refuelling, transferring and transport. Captured hydrocarbons may be reclaimed as the pad floats on water. It is also safe to use on animals, minerals and marine life.

Extensive product testing was completed at the CAWT and funded by the Applied Research and Commercialization Initiative of the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario. Results show that the ROC Oil Cling Pad™ is able to adsorb 20-30 times its own weight and 40 to 60 per cent more hydrocarbons than conventional pads.

Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock MP Barry Devolin and City of Kawartha Lakes Mayor Ric McGee helped kick off the event along with several funding and community representatives. Thompson Fuels assisted with the product demonstration.
