New Health, Safety and Environmental Compliance program unique in Canada
City of Kawartha Lakes ON – (April 9, 2015) – A new post-graduate program at Fleming College will train students for careers in workplace health and safety compliance and environmental protection.
Health, Safety and Environmental Compliance is a two-semester graduate certificate program that will be offered at the Frost Campus starting in January 2016.
No other program in Canada offers this level of comprehensive training in this field. The program focuses on workplace compliance including labour inspection and auditing, public and worker safety, and environmental compliance.
The program is designed to meet the needs of organizations across sectors that are subject to increasing standards and regulations, as well as create strategies to lessen risk in the workplace.
Graduates will have the knowledge and skills needed for inspection and investigation relating to occupational health and safety legislation and environmental law, as well as the ability to design, plan and implement training to create a safe work environment. Students will also learn the legalities around procedures of inspection, monitoring, investigation and enforcement across a wide range of industries.
A key aspect of the program is the applied project in semester two where students will research and design a safety program for a specific industry and submit a full training module. Students will also take the Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response course, which is a widely-recognized training requirement for many jobs in North America.
