Northumberland Road Builders donation creates new bursary
The Northumberland Road Builders Association (NRBA) presented the Fleming College Foundation with a welcome gift at the Cobourg Campus on Monday, Mar. 14.
The NRBA donated $30,000 toward the establishment of a bursary award. The generous donation will be endowed and matched by the provincial government through the Ontario Trust for Student Support program.
The donation will create an opportunity for students from Northumberland region to access a bursary to assist in supporting full-time studies at Fleming College. The bursary will be directed toward students enrolled in or entering one of Fleming’s many programs related to road-building and the construction industry.
Members of the NRBA are making the donation with funds generated by the 2010 Association of Ontario Road Supervisors Trade Show, hosted in Northumberland County.
NRBA President John Cane, Vice-President Ted Sokay, Supplier Representative Mike Ward and Treasurer Peter Nielsen were on-hand for the donation, as was Fleming College Foundation Board Chair Lori Geens.
The NRBA is a non-profit organization made up of contractors, suppliers, and local area municipal staff representatives. The primary goal of the organization is to promote and introduce better road building skills through educational seminars hosted by the NRBA’s various suppliers. These meetings give those working in the industry the opportunity to interact with others in the field and exchange new ideas, and to also lend their experiences and knowledge to help develop better practices for the future.
