Fleming College

Pharmacy Technician students at Fleming College have partnered with health service professionals to host a special community event in celebration of Pharmacy Awareness Month.

The students will provide free health resources and services between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 8 in the main foyer of the Sutherland Campus.

This includes:

• A medication take-back service – individuals can bring unused or expired medications for safe disposal
• Nutrition services
• Fitness assessments
• Blood pressure readings and device training
• Diabetes awareness and glucometer training
• Compression sock fitting
• Eating disorder awareness and supports
• Measuring Body Mass Index, body fat percentage/water/muscle ratios
• Demonstrations of smoking cessation devices

“The Pharmacy Awareness Month event ties together what the students are learning in the Pharmacy Technician program in a nice package, and shows our collaboration with the healthcare community,” said Amanda Mushynski, Coordinator, Pharmacy Technician program. “Our goal is to educate the public on the role of Pharmacy Technicians. It showcases that we’re not just behind the counter at the pharmacy; we’re collaborating with health care professionals and connecting our patients with outside agencies and community supports to enhance overall patient care.”

The Pharmacy Technician program is welcoming the assistance of community partners who are volunteering their time to assist the students with meeting their inter-professional collaboration professional competency program requirements.
