Provincial Government will invest $1.5M over two years in support of Fleming College partnership project in local aerospace sector
Peterborough ON – (December 6, 2019) – Investing in Peterborough Region’s aviation and aerospace sector was the driving force behind the Provincial Government’s funding announcement at The Loomex Group on Dec. 6, 2019. Monte McNaughton, Minister of Labour, Training and Skills Development, and Dave Smith, Member of Provincial Parliament for Peterborough – Kawartha announced that the province will invest $1.5 million over two years in the Peterborough area’s aviation and aerospace sector, creating up to 100 local training and career opportunities.
“The Provincial Government has created jobs and unlocked potential in the aviation and aerospace sector, which will have a profound impact on Peterborough and surrounding region,” said Fleming College President Maureen Adamson. “Fleming College is very proud to be part of this announcement and work alongside industry partners to train local talent, and provide the skills industry needs to put jobs first.”
Fleming College will work with local partners such as Flying Colours Corp., Safran Electronics and Defence Canada, The Loomex Group and Team Eagle Ltd to create curriculum to provide individuals with employable skills and technical training focused on the aviation industry.
“Local aerospace companies are seeing incredible growth opportunities, what is needed now is trained skilled trades which is where Fleming College comes in,” said Trent Gervais, President and CEO of The Loomex Group.
“Governments and employers need colleges to provide them with graduates who have the knowledge and skills they need to increase productivity and contribute to innovation in Canada,” continued President Adamson. “Fleming College stands ready to meet this need and with this funding, will actively open doors for more Ontarians to succeed in the labour market and support workforce development within the aviation industry.”
