Peterborough ON – January  2, 2010 – Sharpen your skates, grab your friends, and start practicing for the 2010 Polar Cup. Students with the Event Management Program at Fleming College are planning the Polar Cup charity event in Lakefield, Ontario during the Smith Ennismore Lakefield PolarFest festival, February 6, 2010. "Proceeds raised from the Polar Cup will support the new Ontario Speed Skating Oval (OSSO) facility that will be one of only three long track facilities in Canada," said Kirsten Liddell, one of the student organizers. The OSSO, Ontario’s first 400m outdoor temperature controlled speed skating oval, is a $12 million project to give Ontario an outside venue for speed skaters. Aspiring skaters can train all winter long because of a sustainable geothermal cooling system. The Event Management Program students are planning the event as a hands-on learning experience for their program. Teams with players age 16 and over can register to either the relaxed division or the competitive men’s division and can register now online at www.ontariospeedskatingoval.com.
