Peterborough, ON (Thursday, October 31, 2014) – The Advancement and Alumni Relations Office at Fleming College will present ‘TRANSFORMING EARLY LEARNING PRACTICE: LESSONS FROM OUR JOURNEY’ online on Thursday, Nov. 20 from 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. (EST).

This complimentary professional development webinar is recommended for individuals who work in child care or child social development related careers.  The key note speakers are Lorrie Baird and Anne Marie Coughlin.

Both very well-known educational leaders in the early childhood profession, Lorrie and Anne Marie will tell impactful stories of their experiences and the powerful lessons that they have learned in supporting transforming practice. These innovative teaching approaches help to create a culture of belonging, wellbeing, engagement, and expression in the early years.  As contributing authors to the Ministry of Education’s ‘Think, Feel, Act: Lessons from research about young children’ document, Lorrie and Anne Marie will also share how the Ontario Ministry of Education has incorporated some of these approaches into Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years, “How Does Learning Happen?” resource. They are currently supporting the launch of this resource across the early learning sector  in Ontario.

Lorrie is the Associate Executive Director at Kawartha Child Care Services in Peterborough, Ontario and a Class of 1985 graduate from Fleming College’s Early Childhood Education program. Anne Marie Coughlin is the Educational Director at London Bridge Child Care in London, Ontario.  Together, they will share their wisdom gained through careers as early child care educators, curriculum consultants, researchers, and as life-long learners.

ABOUT LORRIE BAIRD

Lorrie has been active in the early learning field for 30 years.  Her experience ranges from Classroom Educator, Director, College Faculty, Curriculum Consultant, and now and Associate Executive Director with Kawartha Child Care Services in Peterborough, Ontario. Lorrie has immersed herself in strengthening her understanding of the early learning process.  She has authored articles in both Child Care Exchange and Young Children. As a pedagogical leader and professional learning facilitator, she believes in engaging educators in reflective practice and ensuring that the work in adult learning parallels with that of fostering children. Lorrie is a sought after presenter and has travelled widely across North America sharing her experiences and passion for early learning.  Lorrie was among the team nominated for the 2014 Prix Realm award that recognizes excellence and achievement in the Learning Ministries. She is also a 2014 Fleming College Premier’s Awards—Community Services nominee for outstanding college graduates.
ABOUT ANNE MARIE COUGHLIN
Educational Director, London Bridge Child Care—London, Ontario, Canada

Over her 30-year career, Anne Marie has been a Preschool Educator, Centre Director, Professional Development Coordinator, and Community College Teacher.   She is the author of several articles focusing on child care and pedagogical leadership and has had work published in Child Care Exchange, Canadian Young Children, The Visionary Director and The Unscripted Classroom.  Anne Marie serves as a Director on the Ontario Reggio Association Board and is Provincial Director for the Canadian Association of Young Children. Anne Marie is an accomplished, passionate speaker who is known for her innovative work with Early Childhood Educators. She continues to work as a Mentor for both classroom Educators and program leaders, exploring ways to work with and think about both children.
