Strong Enrolment Growth at Fleming College
Fleming College continued to grow in January, experiencing enrolment increases at all campuses. Total enrolment increased by 14% from last January to 5,708 full-time students across all campuses. First semester intake increased over 7% to 915 new students. The skilled trades program area at Fleming continued its strong growth pattern over the last three years in large part due to the expansion of Electrical Techniques, Electrical Engineering Technician and Construction Skills programs. Total January enrolment in the skilled trades programs almost doubled to 410 students. “We are very pleased that students are choosing Fleming for the next step on their pathway to a career or further education,” said college president Tony Tilly. “The challenging economic climate has more students seeking options to build on their skill sets or train for a career change. Our faculty and staff have worked hard to deliver new and enhanced options for students in all of our academic schools.”Fleming’s School of Environmental and Natural Resource Sciences at the Frost Campus in Lindsay continues to build on its leadership position in environmental career training with just over 1,500 students, representing a 20% overall enrolment increase for January 2010.A new January offering of the General Arts & Science – University Transfer program, a one year certificate that prepares students for degree options at Trent University, helped the School of General Arts & Sciences grow almost 8% overall. The Haliburton School of The Arts experienced growth in its Glassblowing and Visual and Creative Arts programs. These latest enrolment results mark the end of banner year of enrolment growth at Fleming with annual growth for all terms up 14%, representing more than 600 additional students enrolled for two terms at Fleming this past year. Applications for September, 2010 are now being accepted. Students are encouraged to apply by February 1, 2010, to ensure the best chance to secure a space in popular programs. Located in the heart of Central Ontario, Fleming College has campuses in Peterborough, Lindsay, Cobourg and Haliburton. Named for famous Canadian inventor and engineer Sir Sandford Fleming, the college features more than 90 full-time programs in Business and Technology, Continuing Education and Skilled Trades, Environmental and Natural Resource Sciences, Fine Arts, Health and Wellness, and Law, Justice and Community Services.
