Fleming College

 

City of Kawartha Lakes ON – (March 29, 2018) – Trent University and Fleming College have renewed an agreement that allows students in three Fleming programs the opportunity to obtain a Bachelor of Science.

Eligible graduates of the Environmental Technology, Ecosystem Management Technology, and Fish and Wildlife Technology advanced diploma programs will continue to have the opportunity to be granted 10 credits toward Trent’s Environmental and Resource Science B.Sc. degree, allowing them to enter directly into the third year of the program.

“This agreement provides our students with the opportunity to combine the applied, hands-on learning available in our programs with theoretical learning available at Trent, in a shortened time-frame, which is attractive to students. Having both skillsets better prepares our students for jobs in the environmental sector,” said Brett Goodwin, Dean/Principal, School of Environmental and Natural Resource Sciences, Frost Campus.

The three programs are part of the School of Environmental and Natural Resource Sciences (SENRS), located at Fleming’s Frost Campus in Lindsay, Ont. Students in most SENRS diploma programs share a common first semester, which creates a solid academic foundation and allows students to acquire fundamental, transferable skills. These programs also provide students with extensive experiential learning through applied outdoor learning opportunities, field camps, and co-operative education.

The renewal further builds on Fleming’s longstanding partnership with Trent University and the memorandum of understanding signed between the two institutions in April 2016. The MOU created a formal commitment between Trent and Fleming to collaborate in both academic programming and research partnerships in areas related to environmental and natural resource studies.

The two institutions share a comprehensive offering of pathways in other areas of study, ranging from business to education to computers to law and justice.
