Course Code: ARTS2866

This course has been designated as an intermediate/advanced level. These courses may branch into more advanced technical skills, so a minimum of beginner level of knowledge and skill is required. Please read course descriptions as they may list some skills you need to participate in the course instruction.
Learn imprimatura, underpainting, and grisaille, all methods of the masters, but using acrylics! Learn how acrylic paints can be used to create your very own masterpieces in the style of some of the world's most renowned Renaissance artists, such as Rembrandt, Mantegna and Caravaggio. Stain your canvases with imprimatura and use various techniques to create underpaintings such as grisaille that uses only tones of gray to establish a composition. Learn to create significant and effective contrasts by painting in monochromatic darker tones, such as burnt sienna, raw umber, ultramarine blue, and black. Transparent glazes of colour will then be used to finish your work.
