Fibre Arts - Rug Braiding

Course Code: ARTS2704

This course is welcome to all levels. Anyone can take these courses if interested. Beginner-level instruction will be provided for basic skills while more advanced users can work on more complex projects with instructor assistance.
Braided rugs began as a way to keep your floors warm by recycling old worn-out clothing, tearing them into strips and braiding them. You will start the week by making a chair pad or trivet with materials provided by the instructor. You will learn a T-start, how to cut strips and braid them without any edges showing, how to lace the braids together so your piece is reversible and how to taper the end. Once you have mastered this you can select your second project which may be a tote bag or a round or oval rug for the floor. The materials for the second project can be brought from home, consultation prior to class with the instructor is necessary. Materials will also be available for purchase from the instructor. Please bring a pair of sharp scissors.
